Abstract:Objective To investigate the effects of Qingdu Baiyanxiao external application on limb swelling, pain, and myocardial enzyme levels in patients with pit viper bite. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 85 patients with pit viper bites admitted to Jiujiang First People's Hospital from January 2020 to December 2023. They were divided into two groups according to different treatment methods. 43 cases in the control group were treated with conventional Western medicine, while 42 cases in the observation group were treated with external application of Qingdu Baiyanxiao and Western medicine. The treatment effect was observed after 7 days of treatment. The clinical efficacy, limb swelling, pain, myocardial enzyme levels, inflammatory indicators, local symptoms, systemic symptoms, and adverse reactions between two groups were compared. Results The clinical efficacy of the observation group was better than that of the control group, and the cure rate was higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the observation group showed lower levels of limb swelling, visual analog scale (VAS), local symptom score, systemic symptom score, creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB), creatine kinase (CK), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), neutrophils, and white blood cells compared to the control group (P<0.05). No significant adverse reactions were observed in both groups. Conclusion The external application of Qingdu Baiyanxiao can alleviate swelling and pain in the affected limbs of patients with pit viper bites, improve myocardial enzyme levels, inhibit inflammatory reactions, alleviate clinical symptoms, and has good safety. It provides a certain reference for the clinical treatment of pit viper bites.
